What Is Accreditation?
Accreditation is a voluntary method of quality assurance developed more than 100 years ago by American universities and secondary schools, and designed primarily to distinguish schools adhering to a set of educational standards... Today accreditation examines the whole institution--the programs, the cultural context, the community of stakeholders--to determine how well the parts work together to meet the needs of students. What Is AdvancED?
In 1994, regional accreditation organizations in the United States established the Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation (CITA), an international educational accreditation agency. CITA provided systems of accreditation around the world. In 2008, CITA was acquired by AdvancED. Since then, AdvancED has been dedicated to advancing excellence in education worldwide. The North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI), Northwest Accreditation Commission (NWAC), and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI) are accreditation divisions of AdvancED.
